Human Brain Project

The Human Brain Project (HBP) is a project that aims to build a complete, biologically realistic, simulation of the human brain within a supercomputer. The simulation will be realistic right down to the molecular level. It is believed that an exascale supercomputer will be required to achieve this.

The Human Brain Project (HBP) is a proposed European research project to understand the human brain. A one-year pilot phase of the project was completed in April 2012. The project is now awaiting a decision on whether it'll be awarded a flagship EU research grant. This grant would provide funding of around €1 billion over ten years. The decision will be announced on January 28, 2013.

If it is selected for funding, then various existing research projects will become part of the HBP. These other projects include the Blue Brain Project, the SpiNNaker project, and the BrainScaleS project.
